Town Hall Cadenzas
Saturday, February 28 | 1:00–3:00 PM
Town Hall Cadenzas is an interactive, music driven workshop led by composer and cultural activist Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) that transforms orchestral sound into a platform for collaboration, civic expression, and collective storytelling. Using the technique of underscoring, where music supports spoken word, testimony, and poetic expression, participants are invited to step forward, share their voices, and contribute to a unified sonic experience rooted in cooperation and creative dialogue.
Grounded in the spirit of a community town hall, the workshop encourages participants to explore how sound, speech, and rhythm can function as tools for activism, healing, and self-expression. Through guided prompts and collaborative improvisation, attendees help build a layered soundscape that reflects shared experiences, social concerns, and visions for justice, belonging, and collective care.
Participants are encouraged to bring instruments or any objects that produce sound, including cell phones, Bluetooth speakers, or digital devices. No musical experience is required. A Bluetooth speaker will be provided for DBR to support the underscoring component.
Open to all ages and backgrounds, this workshop invites participants to listen, respond, and co create, demonstrating how music can amplify voices, deepen connection, and transform personal expression into a collective message.
