Over sixty years ago, Dr. Charles H. Wright and a small group of Detroiters took it upon themselves to build a museum that honored the depth, complexity, and brilliance of Black history. They created something powerful and necessary. They created something that has endured.

Today our work continues with the same sense of purpose. At a time when the teaching of Black history is being challenged and too often diminished, The Wright remains a place that preserves truth and invites understanding. It is a place that welcomes families, inspires students, and reminds all of us that our stories carry weight and meaning.

Your support has a direct impact on our ability to move confidently into the next sixty years. Your support and advocacy is essential, especially during a time in our climate where arts and cultural institutions face new challenges and fight 'erasure' with truth. Your support strengthens our educational programs. It amplifies exhibitions that elevate the global Black experience. It keeps our doors open for the communities we serve. And it ensures that this museum remains accessible to every visitor who walks through our entrance.

We thrive on individual giving and the power of collective membership. When thousands of voices stand together, no order, no shifting political wind, can erase our story.

That’s why we launched the 25K Cultural Preservation Challenge.
