Nothin’ But The Blues returns as a signature Third Thursday experience, centering the depth, resilience, and audacity of Black expression through one of the most enduring genres we created. Rooted in truth telling, survival, and sound shaped by steel and grit, this evening honors the blues as both a musical tradition and a cultural force.
Detroit’s Queen of the Blues, Thornetta Davis, leads the night with a powerful performance that carries the weight and beauty of the genre’s legacy. Joining her are Emmy Award winning poet Scott Woods and Detroit poet Jazmine Jamai, whose words bring rhythm, reflection, and contemporary voice into conversation with the blues tradition.
Together, these artists create an experience that moves between music and poetry, memory and presence. This is not just a performance. It is a gathering rooted in sound, story, and the enduring spirit of Black creativity.

Third Thursdays bring the night to life with creativity, culture, and community... only available at The Wright Museum. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in live music, sip thoughtfully crafted cocktails in our Rotunda, enjoy light refreshments after they wander through our exhibitions that honor the depth and brilliance of African American history and culture. As the evening unfolds, feel the energy of dynamic performances by extraordinary local and national artists. From the soulfulness of jazz and the power of spoken word to modern Hip Hop and R&B sounds, each performance transforms the museum into a vibrant gathering place. Connect with curators, artists, and special guests who bring the stories behind the arts to life. Each month brings a new program and featured artists.
