Third Thursday: New Jack Swing Back II BLK
Thursday, February 19th | 6:00–8:00 PM
February’s Third Thursday brings the Wright Museum Rotunda to life with New Jack Swing Back II BLK, a celebration of Black brilliance, style, and sound that defined a generation and continues to shape culture today.
This unforgettable evening pays tribute to the late 1980s and early 1990s, a moment when Black artists, producers, and creatives set the global standard for music, fashion, and identity. From smooth grooves and bold rhythms to the unapologetic flyness that made New Jack Swing a movement, the night centers Black joy as both collective memory and living legacy. Set within the Drew Keys will take center stage, reimagining the era’s signature beats and melodies through a powerful live performance that blends orchestral arrangements with contemporary expression.
Performances by Johdi Jackson, Isis Damil, LG Sings, Bryce LP, Natasha T. Miller, and Dr. Pellz will move between music, spoken word, and lyrical expression. Together, these artists bring fresh voice, dynamic energy, and Detroit rooted artistry to the sounds that raised us, honoring the cultural genius of Black creators who transformed dance floors, radio waves, and visual culture across the world. New Jack Swing Back II BLK is more than a concert. It is a cultural homecoming.
Audiences are invited to dance, remember, and celebrate the sounds that helped define who we are. Expect fly fashion, contagious energy, and a night where the Wright becomes a living, breathing tribute to Black innovation, rhythm, and resilience.
