Roots and Futures Youth Summit
Saturday, December 12, 2026 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Roots & Futures Youth Summit 2026 will amplify youth voice, engage young people with the Wright Museum's collection, and spark curiosity and wonder about African American history. Through immersive artistic experiences, youth will imagine Detroit one hundred years into the future and interrogate how the legacy they inherit can shape the city they leave behind.
Afrofuturism is an artistic, cultural, and political movement that explores the intersection of Black culture, technology, and the future. It re-imagines the Black experience through science fiction, magical realism, and fantasy, using these genres to critique historical injustices and envision liberated, empowered futures.
