Bones hitting the table hard enough to make the drinks jump. Your uncle leaning back in his chair because he already knows what you’ve got in your hand. Your cousin talking cash-money trash even though she’s been losing for the last twenty minutes. That one family member keeping score like the mortgage depends on it.
Dominoes has lived on our kitchen tables, at family reunions, cookouts, barbershops, porches and neighborhood gatherings for generations. We learned the game sitting beside people we loved, watching, listening and waiting until somebody finally decided we were old enough to get in.
And whew, once you got in, you better know what you were doing.
On November 6, Cards & Culture returns to the Wright with Gentle Dominoes, where we’re keeping everything we love about the game and loosening our grip on everything that used to make playing it stressful.
The hilarious Crystal P is Crazee is back after hosting Gentle Spades, bringing the laughs while we play, learn, talk a little trash and enjoy being together.

Got yelled at once for playing the wrong bone and haven’t touched a domino since 1997? Definitely pull up.
We’re laughing. We’re learning. We’re playing. We’re protecting our peace.
And yes, you can still slap the bones on the table. Some traditions are sacred.
