As part of the 2026 Annual Black History Month celebration, the ASALH Detroit Branch presents The 1915 Lincoln Jubilee Celebration, a historic program that revisits one of Detroit’s earliest large-scale commemorations of Black freedom, achievement, and collective pride. This program explores the cultural, political, and community significance of the 1915 Jubilee, highlighting how African Americans used public celebration, memory, and organizing to honor Abraham Lincoln’s legacy while asserting their own visions of freedom and progress in the early twentieth century. Through storytelling and historical reflection, this program invites audiences to consider the enduring power of celebration as resistance, remembrance, and cultural affirmation.
