On March 8, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History will host Ailey Dance for Active Aging, a movement-based residency designed for older adults. Led by teaching artists from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, this program supports strength, balance, and flexibility while offering cardiovascular and cognitive stimulation.

More than a fitness class, participants use movement to share personal stories, create choreography, and express creativity. Weekly sessions foster social connection and help reduce injury risks associated with inactivity or isolation. The residency includes planning support, a series of engaging dance classes, opportunities to learn about Alvin Ailey’s legacy, and a culminating presentation for family and friends.

This experience promotes wellness, imagination, and community through the power of dance.
