Detroit, MI – June 2, 2025 – The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is proud to host Juneteenth at The Wright 2025 on June 19, 2025. This special event will honor Juneteenth, a historic day that celebrates freedom and the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
“Juneteenth at The Wright is more than a celebration; it is a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made and the challenges that remain,” said Neil A. Barclay, President & CEO Charles Wright Museum. “It’s a time to educate, honor, and embrace the collective responsibility to continue the fight for equality for all,” said Barclay.
Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news of the Emancipation Proclamation—over two years after it was issued. This day is a poignant reminder of the enduring struggle for equality and justice and serves as a catalyst for reflection, education, and celebration of African American culture and resilience.
The Wright Museum’s Juneteenth 2025 celebration will be filled with a variety of activities that emphasize the historical significance of Juneteenth, while also reflecting on its lasting impact on the fight for freedom, equality, and justice. The event invites people of all backgrounds to come together to commemorate this pivotal moment in history, honor the strength and resilience of African Americans, and renew the commitment to the ongoing pursuit of equality for all.
