A Transformative Performance Celebrating African American Artistic Excellence
DETROIT, MI (December 1, 2025) — The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is honored to welcome the internationally acclaimed ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock® to Detroit on Saturday, December 13, with performances at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM. This event is part of The Wright Performances, a multidisciplinary series spotlighting the best in African American artistic expression.
Sweet Honey In The Rock® stands as a beacon of empowerment, education, and cultural elevation. For over four decades, this Grammy Award®-nominated female a cappella vocal group has moved audiences worldwide with their message-driven music, soulful harmonies, and powerful activism.
Their lineup includes founding members Carol Maillard and Louise Robinson, joined by Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, and featured musician Romeir Mendez on upright and electric bass. Together, they blend rich vocal traditions with storytelling and theatricality to deliver performances that uplift and inspire.
