The Charles H. Wright Museum Announces the 2025 Gala: “Celebrating our Past, Creating Our Future” Celebrating 60 Years

Detroit, MI - Join us on October 11, 2025, for an unforgettable evening as we celebrate 60 years of legacy, culture, and community at The Wright Gala. This landmark event will serve as the culminating highlight of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History’s 60th Anniversary—a yearlong tribute to six decades of powerful storytelling and impact.

The Wright Gala 2025 will be a reunion for the museum’s supporters, patrons, and friends — rekindling the spirit of unity that has long been a hallmark of Detroit. It promises to be an unforgettable evening, combining reflection, recognition, and celebration of African American history, culture, and the ongoing efforts to shape a brighter future for all.
“The Wright Gala is more than a fundraiser—it’s a cultural homecoming,” said Neil A. Barclay, President and CEO of The Charles H. Wright Museum. “In a time when our stories matter more than ever, this evening honors the enduring legacy of African American contributions while galvanizing support for the work ahead.”

For generations, The Wright has been a cornerstone of cultural preservation, education, and empowerment. As one of the largest institutions dedicated to the African American experience, it offers a powerful space for reflection, learning, and engagement. This milestone anniversary not only honors The Wright's enduring legacy but also highlights its ongoing commitment to enriching lives through the exploration of African American history, culture, and contributions.

Throughout the year, we have hosted a series of special events, exhibitions, and programs, all leading up to this grand celebration in October. This momentous occasion will showcase the museum's pivotal role in shaping public understanding of African American history and culture, while also paving the way for its continued growth and impact in the years to come.

The Wright Gala 2025 will recognize the museum as a cherished community and national treasure, while shining a spotlight on the "gems" — individuals and institutions that have significantly contributed to shaping its profound impact on society. The evening will feature tributes to those whose work has paved the way for future generations, as well as reflections on the museum’s vital role in preserving African American history and culture.

“This milestone anniversary allows us to reflect on the incredible journey of the museum, while looking ahead to our exciting future,” said Barclay. “The Wright Gala is more than a celebration; it’s an opportunity for us to come together as a community, reignite the spirit of Detroit, and acknowledge the incredible individuals and organizations that continue to inspire change and preserve our history.”
