Auxiliary and Affiliate Groups

Take your support of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History to another level when you join one of our auxiliary groups! While each committee serves in different ways, the overall goal is to preserve the Museum for generations to come.

Note: A prerequisite to joining any auxiliary group is membership to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

The Friends Committee

Working to preserve the legacy of the Museum and founder, Dr. Charles H. Wright, the Friends Committee primarily supports The Wright through membership and donor recognition fundraising campaigns, such as:

  •  Dr. Wright’s birthday celebration
  •  Museum membership drive activities
  •  Selling of seats in the GM Theater
  •  “Give a Grand, Make a Million” Program

For membership information and more, contact Friends Committee Recording Secretary, Will Cooper.

Michigan Underground Railroad exploratory collective

Inspired by Detroit’s Gateway to Freedom Monument, MUREC's focus is to establish Michigan’s Underground Railroad history as a legitimate and essential narrative that includes a kindergarten through adult Black Studies Curriculum. Our membership is diverse, representing various disciplines, skills, and communities that have a common interest in research, preserve and explore the activities of the Underground Railroad in Michigan and Ontario.

MUREC’s historic interactive programming includes speakers, field trips to sites across Michigan including the Detroit River borderland, recognition/plaquing of events and conversations of the 19th-century freedom movement.
