The Price for Their Pound of Flesh

Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 7 PM

Guest speaker Daina Ramey Berry, Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin, discusses her book The Price for Their Pound of Flesh: The Value of the Enslaved, from Womb to Grave, in the Building of a Nation, the first book to explore the economic value of enslaved people through every phase of their lives. This narrative will have a major impact how people think about slavery, reparations, capitalism, nineteenth-century medical education, and the value of life and death.

Immediately following the lecture will be a book signing.
