Description
The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History presents its annual Kwanzaa Celebration, which begins Monday evening and continues through Thursday with unique activities every day! Join us as we celebrate with friends and family and pay tribute to our rich cultural heritage.
Schedule of Events
All Nights: Candle lighting ceremony beginning at 6:00 P.M., followed by the evening's festivities.
Monday, Dec. 26 (Umoja - Unity): Storytelling, musical performances, and a Kwanzaa marketplace. Presented in conjunction with the Shrine of the Black Madonna.
Tuesday, Dec. 27 (Kujichagulia - Self-Determination): Poetry, music and other performances from U.N.I.A. and InSide Out.
Wednesday, Dec. 28 (Ujima - Collective Work & Responsibility): Rowe Niodior African Dance Company & Omawale Cultural Society.
Thursday, Dec. 29 (Ujamaa - Cooperative Economics): African Fashion Show featuring Detroit area designers, boutiques, and vendors.
